Introduction
So, you got a claim on your YouTube video and don't know what to do? In this article, we will be talking about ways to help remove a copyright claim from your video. First, we note that the claim will not be able to prevent you from using content you create. Your video will not be removed or restricted in any way from distribution on YouTube.
Authors of music and video content use the Content ID system to protect their rights and avoid becoming victims of fraudulent actions by intruders.
The only inconvenience for you is the inability to monetize your content. Part of the money will go to the authors of the content you use. Therefore, if your channel is small or not monetized, then you shouldn’t worry. You can easily use music available for free download or use under a free license.
Contact the music distributor or publisher.
Any music is distributed by the authors through distributors or publishers, there are a huge number of them – CD Baby, HAAWK (Identifyy), Distrokid, Tunecore, RouteNote, ONErpm etc. These and many other services perform, on behalf of the author, the function of controlling the use of content on YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram.
If you have purchased a license and you have a right to use the music, logo or sound effect, then you can contact the distributor or publisher directly to remove the claim. You can find information about the distributor or publisher on whose behalf the claim is made under the description of your video on YouTube or in your creative studio. It will also contain information about the author of the track you used and track title. So, use the distributor’s contact to dispute the claim. Most of tracks from our library are registered in Identifyy Content ID system and you can use this contact form.
Dispute the claim in your YouTube studio.
You can also dispute the claim by contacting YouTube directly. Here are the instructions
- You need go to your creative studio, then go to the content tab and find the video that received the claim.
- In the restrictions section you will see a mark – copyright claim. Click for details.
- Then you need to choose an action – dispute the claim.
- After that you will need to attach documents confirming your rights to use the music.
Your application will be reviewed within 30 days. In practice, YouTube quickly considers copyright disputes and the whole process takes from one to seven days. This method is faster than the first one since in this case you are in direct contact with YouTube and not through a distributor or publisher.
Contact the content creator directly
You can write directly to the author of the music content to ask him to help you dispute the claim. The advantage of this method is that the authors have the opportunity to contact the distributor’s support more quickly or automatically add your video to the white list. If you use music from our library and your video has received a claim, write to us using the contact form and we will be happy to advise you on all your questions and help you to solve your problem.
If you thought that I could offer you some magical way to clean up your content from copyright claims, then I will disappoint you. Use music legally according to the conditions offered by distribution services or authors themselves. Оf course, you can use the so-called “No copyright music”, NCM, NCS etc., although there will be less and less of this music as time goes by. However, in this case, you run the risk of becoming victims of intruders who can register music in the content ID system.
Also, don’t forget that a huge collection of royalty free music is available for free download and use on our site. Get it!
